Baptism is birth into the new life in Christ. In accordance with the Lord's will, it is necessary for salvation, as is the Church herself, which we enter by Baptism. CCC 1277
Requirements
One of the child's parents must be a parishioner and an active Catholic
One of the sponsors (godparent) must also be a practicing Catholic and a member of Our Lady of Lourdes parish or provide a "letter of good standing" from their own parish.
Only one godparent or sponsor is required but if you choose two, one must be male, and one must be female.
To better understand the Sacrament of Baptism, new parents and parents with children who are new to the parish are required to attend a Baptismal Preparation Session. The session covers both the Sacrament of Baptism and the Liturgy of Baptism. It also covers the responsibilities of parents in raising their child in the Catholic Faith.
The next Baptismal Preparation Session will be on Saturday, September 9, 2023 from 10:00-11:00am
The sessions will be offered on Saturdays from 10:00-11:00am four times a year (so plan ahead). Please watch this space or call the office for 2023 dates.
Godparents are strongly encouraged to attend.
Once parents have attended a session, a date for Baptism may be scheduled.
The day of the Baptism, one of our Baptism Hosts will be on hand to greet the family and answer any questions.
No Baptisms will be celebrated during Lent except in an emergency.
