We just completed a trip to the Tijuana Mission! Join us this Sunday, October 27th at 9:45 in Hofstede Hall as we share our Stories from the Border. We'll talk about different ministries being led by the Oblates and youth leaders in Tijuana and how this community lives out the Gospel every day.
From the U.S. Council of Catholic Bishops: Pope Francis recently declared that the Monday immediately following Pentecost is to be celebrated as the "Memorial of the Blessed Virgin Mary: Mother of the Church." This action emphasizes the central role that Mary and all mothers have in the Church. Keeping in mind the caring role of our Holy Mother, and the crucial place that she has within the life of a family, it is deeply concerning when this relationship is fractured or broken in any fashion.
Healing circles could be part of restorative justice efforts implemented in the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis for Catholics to seek healing — from individual abuse situations and as a community — as the local Church continues to respond to clergy sexual abuse allegations that arose after the Minnesota State Legislature lifted in 2013 the statute of limitations on abuse cases.
You may recall that as I celebrated Ash Wednesday Mass last year, a group of Catholics unfurled a banner on the facade of our Cathedral stating: “Speaking up for unborn lives more than black and brown lives is white supremacy. Silence is sin.” Some of our brothers and sisters see the Church so consumed by our pro-life efforts and so “over[ly] vigilant on the single issue of abortion” that every other effort pales in comparison.
Monday, February 26, is National Catholic Call-in Day for Dreamers. The bishops of the United States are asking all people of good will to call their elected federal officials and ask them to protect our brothers and sisters who qualify as “Dreamers.” Nearly two million young people are anxiously waiting for lawmakers in Washington, D.C. to come up with a bipartisan bill ahead of the March 5 deadline, when protections for DACA youth expire.
