Marian, Lily & Trinitarian
The Fleur De Lis is the comprehensive form of the new parish logo. As such, the new logo remains in full continuity with the parish’s preceding logo and French heritage. Historically, the Fleur De Lis is a symbol for Mary, the Mother of God. It is also a form of the lily, symbolizing purity and because of its three petals, has come to be a symbol of the Holy Trinity.
Grotto, & Immaculate Conception
At the village of Lourdes in France, a “Beautiful Lady” appeared to St. Bernadette eighteen times at a grotto by the Gave River in 1858. Dressed in white, she wore a waist girdle, blue ribbon, and had yellow roses upon her feet. During the sixteenth apparition, the Beautiful Lady revealed to St. Bernadette that she was the Immaculate Conception.
Mary, Rosary, Love & Joy
In addition to St. Bernadette seeing roses upon the feet of Mary at Lourdes, the rose has historically been a significant symbol for Mary. Indeed, in the thirteenth century St. Dominic was given the rosary in an apparition of Mary. The word rosary is derived from the Latin rosarium, meaning "Crown of Roses.” Roses are symbolic of love, and yellow roses specifically are often symbolic of radiance and joy.
Healing Water, Baptism & St. Anthony Falls
At Lourdes, waters began to flow from an underground spring. To this day, these healing waters are the place of pilgrimage for faithful from around the world. The springs of the logo design also symbolize baptism and the history of the region. St. Anthony Falls, named after St. Anthony, was a source of life to the early Catholic settlers. Among several names used, the native peoples called them mnirara, which means, "curling waters".
Christ, Redemption & Rosary
At the center of the new parish logo, the cross represents Christ the Redeemer, who stands at the very center of Mary’s existence. Catholics pray during the Lenten Season that by His cross, Christ “has redeemed the world". Moreover, the cross is associated intimately with the rosary in both physical design and spiritual meaning. In praying the rosary, Catholics meditate upon the mysteries of the sacrificial life and love of both Jesus and His mother.
